Flowt, a financial technology company operating from Nairobi, completed the initial closing of its pre-seed funding round. The funding will help the company supply working capital to small companies focused on climate solutions across Africa. Backers include Delta40 Fund I, Impacc, and grant support provided by the Argidius Foundation. While the company did not disclose the exact financial amount, the injection of capital will help them scale their lending operations.

Founded by Elana Laichena and Handel Dan Owour, Flowt is developing an artificial intelligence platform to evaluate the creditworthiness of small companies. Many green companies struggle to obtain loans from conventional banks because they lack physical collateral or long financial histories. By analyzing transaction records, accounting logs, and mobile money receipts, the platform converts raw data into structured credit profiles. This approach allows lenders to evaluate repayment capacity more accurately and quickly.

The company was incubated inside the Delta40 venture studio and has already tested its evaluation method with more than fifteen prospective borrowers. This testing phase identified a lending pipeline worth between one and two million dollars. Flowt has already issued its first working capital facility to GreenBay, a Kenyan circular commerce company that refurbishes and resells household appliances and solar products. To evaluate GreenBay, the platform connected directly to the company's accounting software and analyzed banking records to determine its financial health.

Targeting Green Sectors

The target audience for this credit includes operators in renewable energy, green manufacturing, clean cooking, and climate-friendly agriculture. The new financial backing will help Flowt distribute more working capital in Kenya while building the digital infrastructure needed to make African small companies more visible to investors and lenders. Rather than depending on physical assets for security, the model relies on verified transaction histories to make smaller loans faster and more affordable to process.

By using artificial intelligence to organize existing digital transaction records, companies like Flowt create alternative paths for credit verification. This reduces risk assessment costs for financial institutions while providing liquidity to operators who are often ignored by traditional lenders. Expanding credit access for these enterprises directly speeds up the deployment of green infrastructure and sustainable commercial solutions across regional economies. Flowt plans to pursue a second closing of this funding round, alongside additional debt and repayable grant financing. The goal is to grow its loan book up to one million dollars by the end of 2026. The startup believes that African climate enterprises generate real revenues and create jobs, making them bankable clients when evaluated with the right technology.
